GETTING YOU BETTER, FASTER.

Shockwave Therapy for the treatment of Chronic Tendon Problems.

WHAT WE DO?

WHAT WE DO ?

Harborne Chiropractic Clinic started using shockwave therapy several years ago when it became apparent that a small percentage of our patients with chronic tendinopathies weren’t responding to other forms of conservative treatment. Shockwave therapy offers another option without the need for invasive injections or surgery. The results have been so good that we have formed Total Shockwave to offer this service independently.

WHAT WE TREAT

WHAT WE TREAT

Plantar Fasciitis is an extremely common form of heel pain. It is characterised by heel pain which is especially bad in the morning or after a period of sitting down. It involves inflammation of the band which connects your heel to your toes. It’s one of the most common injuries for runners but can affect people of all ages and activity levels. Shockwave Therapy works particularly well for this condition

Tennis Elbow also knows as Lateral Epicondylitis is inflammation of the tendons which attach to the outside of your elbow. It is a repetitive type injury hence the link to Tennis players although it is very common in manual workers and DIY enthusiasts. This condition can vary from mild to severe. In conjunction with a tailored rehabilitation programme we see great results.

Also known as Medial Epicondylitis this condition is inflammation of the tendons which attach to the inner part of the elbow. Not solely linked to people that play golf but anyone that has overused the forearm and hand flexors which has then resulted in inflammation of the tendons.
The pain of golfer’s elbow doesn’t have to keep you off the course or away from your favorite activities. Shockwave therapy works amazingly well for this condition.

Patella Tendinopathy also known as Jumpers Knee is pain on the front of the knee. Common in athletes that go through a lot of high impact sport e.g. Basketball, Crossfit, volleyball etc. or people that have suddenly increased their activity levels. If you have chronic knee pain that hasn’t responded well to other forms of treatment, then shockwave can be the answer. All our patients with this condition will have a tailored rehab programme in conjunction with the shockwave therapy.

Hard calcium deposit can form on soft tissue, in this case tendons of the rotator cuff in the shoulder. When calcium builds up in the tendon, it can cause a buildup of pressure in the tendon, as well causing a chemical irritation. This leads to pain which can be very intense. Most people with this condition will have it confirmed on imagery e.g. x-ray or MRI. Shockwave therapy actually helps breakdown the calcium deposits which improves the integrity of the tendon and leads to a decrease in pain.

Many typical sports injuries that haven’t responded to typical treatments, such as ice and rest, massage, rehabilitation, acupuncture etc. that are not serious enough for more invasive of surgical options can respond well to shockwave therapy. Improvements with shockwave therapy tend to happen very quickly which is what makes it a great option for top level athletes or weekend warriors to allow them to get back to doing what they love.

Long term musculoskeletal injuries resulting in chronic pain that haven’t responded to normal treatments are often considered for steroid injections or surgery. Shockwave Therapy offers potential where other therapies have failed.

WHAT IS SHOCKWAVE

WHAT IS SHOCKWAVE

Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive treatment performed with a hand-held device that creates high-energy sound waves (or pressure waves), transmitted to the injured tissue to provide pain relief. The shockwaves are mechanical waves (think about the sound waves you see with a sonic boom). The treatment works by creating micro trauma at a cellular level which results in an acute inflammatory response within the muscle. This inflammatory response initiates accelerated tissue repair, cell growth, analgesia and mobility restoration.

I can honestly say that after one short treatment of shockwave therapy my “trigger” finger was completely healed. Up till then I sometimes had had to bend my finger back into position and it caused me much discomfort each time. I realise that I was fortunate that my finger was healed so quickly when I expected to have a few more sessions, but I would certainly recommend shockwave treatment whenever it is suggested by Gabriela.

I saw Guy for a heel issue that had been causing me pain for six months. The shockwave treatment really made a huge difference and after four treatments it has resolved.

It’s amazing!! I had some calcification in my shoulder which Guy treated with Shockwave. The GP said I would need surgery which I really wanted to avoid. Four treatments and I have no pain.

I’m so grateful for Gabi, having suffered with elbow pain for almost a year I came across shockwave therapy after having had an injection which didn’t work. Gabi did a great job in explaining and treating the injury. Her treatments also used massage and acupuncture which I feel made a huge difference.

Shockwave therapy helped me go running again. I tried orthotics, stretches, massage and nothing worked. I felt a difference after the first session and after a short course of treatments I was fixed. I recommend shockwave therapy to everyone now.

I was referred to Guy by a friend for a knee problem which started after a long bike ride. I had the pain for three months and tried massage and rest but it wasn’t getting better. Guy identified a weakness in my glutes which meant I was putting more pressure into my knee. He recommended a short course of shockwave and gave me some strengthening exercises. After a few treatments I can ride my bike with no pain.

I had a great experience with shockwave therapy. If you have a long term injury give it a go. It works!

Kate P.

I would certainly recommend shockwave to everyone. Gabi has helped me to reduce shoulder and elbow pain. She is very knowledgeable and explained to me the shockwave therapy and gave me exercises which have greatly reduced my pain.

I got Achilles tendinitis out of nowhere. A friend suggested I see Gabi who was amazing. I had shockwave therapy and massage and havn’t had any pain for three months now.

I had trigger thumb and was due to have surgery. I’ve been a patient of Guy’s for many years and he suggested I try shockwave as it can work well for this issue. It was a bit uncomfortable at times but my thumb no longer locks up and I don’t need surgery. I wish I had known about shockwave therapy sooner.

Phil M.

Gabi fixed my Achilles pain with shockwave. I can’t thank her enough.
